Fall Activities & Events in Lake Charles
With its many casinos and rich Cajun cultural heritage, it seems there’s always something to do in Lake Charles, LA. Fall is an especially great time of year to get outside and enjoy events or sports as the stifling summer humidity starts to let up and a touch of cool air settles in.
Gallery Promenade
On the evening of September 26th from 5pm-9pm, stroll the streets of downtown Lake Charles as several art galleries, studios, and museums open their doors to the public. View and purchase work by local artists, see live music and other performances, and attend book signings among other activities, all for free.
Rouge et Blanc Wine Festival
Wine lovers and foodies alike won’t want to miss the Rouge et Blanc Wine Festival on October 11th. Over 200 wines from around the country and around the world will be available for sampling. Local restaurants will provide food samples and locally renowned chefs will share tips at seminars and presentations. The official event is already sold out this year, but check out local restaurants during the week before the 11th, and you’ll find special wine and dinner events.
Lake Charles Film & Music Festival
The annual Lake Charles Film & Music Festival takes place from October 10-12 and showcases Louisiana musicians and filmmakers. This year’s guest of honor will be Wesley Eure, Baton Rouge native and actor from hit TV shows Land of the Lost and Days of Our Lives. The headlining band for the kick-off party this year will be Gal Holiday & The Honky Tonk Revue. The group hails from New Orleans and plays rockabilly-style music that leans toward country and tells humorous tales of tough times on the road and other real-life stories from the South. There will be seminars and workshops provided by industry experts such as make up special effects, independent filmmaking, documentary filmmaking and more! Flea Fest
If you’re a sucker for antiques or vintage items, you’ll love Flea Fest, a two-day semi-annual event from November 15-16 at the Burton Complex in Lake Charles. The event attracts 300 vendors and thousands of visitors per day and is open from 9am-5pm. You can even buy early bird tickets for $10 to try and get the best bargains before everyone else shows up. Other items include comics and collectibles, artwork, and handcrafted items. You’ll also find locally-sourced produce and other products.
Farmer’s Markets
If you love cooking with the freshest ingredients and you’re a supporter of locally-sourced food, fall is a great time to hit the farmers’ markets. Autumn is harvest season, and Lake Charles is no exception. Take advantage of ideal weather to stroll around the Cash and Carry Farmers’ Market on Tuesdays from 4pm to 6pm, or check out the Charlestown Farmers’ Market on Saturdays from 8am to 12pm or Thursdays from 2pm to 6pm.
