Whether a local or just visiting our Woodlands corporate housing, take time to experience the rodeo of Houston. Occurring through the month of March, the Houston Rodeo tests the strength and speed of its cowboy athletes. American style rodeos typically include the following events: tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, bull riding, and barrel racing. The events are divided into two basic categories: the rough stock events and the timed events. Rodeo may not be what is traditionally thought of when thinking of sports, but it is an integral part of Texan culture.

February 15th marks the opening of the Houston Roller Derby, another non-traditional sport that has cultural ties with the state of Texas. Games, or “bouts” as they are called, consist of two teams of five members roller-skating in the same direction around a track. Through a series of short matchups (“jams”), teams designate a scoring player (the “jammer”) who scores points by lapping members of the opposing team. The teams attempt to assist their own jammer whilst hindering the opposing jammer. The season begins in February and ends in early May.
