Port Arthur Fall Activities

In the warm Gulf coast, the end of summer doesn’t mean the beginning of hibernation. Now that the heat has taken it down a notch, fall in Port Arthur can be an even more active season than summer. This is a great time of year to explore the environment surrounding the coast, or check out some of the colorful seasonal events taking place inland.

Visit the Museum of the Gulf Coast during your stay to learn more about the culture and natural history of the Gulf. The museum has special events taking place this fall, starting with the Free Family Fun Day on September 6. Storytelling and crafts for children revolve around Gulf folktales and lore. Through November 16th, you can also see a temporary exhibit of humorous early 20th century postcards.

Make room on your calendar for some special events unique to Port Arthur. From September 12 to the 13th, visit the Mexican Heritage Fiesta, an annual event put on by the local Mexican Heritage Society. Attendees get to try a variety of Mexican food, listen to Mexican bands and listen to folk music performances. There are games and activities especially for children, including piñatas and a costume contest. On October 28, debut your Halloween costume at the Max Bowl for a Cosmic Costume Bowling Tournament. Bowl for prizes in roomful of Frankensteins and witches.

Polish your binoculars! Port Arthur has some of the best bird watching on the coast. Many winged species flock in huge numbers to the warm Gulf, a common stopover for migratory waterfowl. During the fall, you’ll see an abundance of shorebirds, including Snowy Plovers and Buff-breasted Sandpipers. Fall is also a good time to keep an eye out for a wide variety of swallows.

With temperate waters and warm breezes, fall is the best season to go fishing in the Gulf. Lots of hungry amberjack and grouper are waiting to take the bait this time of year. Consider booking a charter to go deep sea fishing for red snapper, one of the most prized catches in the Gulf.

Sea Rim State Park is one of the best destinations for any outdoor activities you plan to do in Port Arthur. It has miles of biking and hiking. If you have a permit, visit the park in the fall to do some hunting – in-season animals include alligators, ducks, geese, and white-tailed deer. As you can see, there’s tons to do in the fall when you stay at our Port Arthur Corporate Housing!
